BW Project Week 14

ISO 100 | 115mm | f 2.8 | 1/3200 sec

I was looking for some inspiration for my black and white project this week and I came across a lot of images of trees.  Groups of trees, solitary trees, parts of trees, and whole forests, they're all there captured on film.  There's something about the intricate structure of a tree that makes it fascinating.  The leading lines created by the trunk and its branches, the variety of shapes found in the tree's outline, the amazing texture of the wood and its bark, the incredible details of each and every leaf.  Yes, trees are incredible creations, things to be enjoyed and photographed.

So here is my first attempt at capturing a solitary tree.  A few things I like about this photo: 1.The silhouette of the trunk and branches caused by the backlighting in this image, 2. The curve of the hills in the back that follow the contour of the underside of the tree, 3. The slight hint of sky and clouds above the tree, and 4. The fact that the tree is elevated in the image, giving it more prominence and setting it apart as the main subject.

I'm definitely going to have to incorporate trees into my list of potential photography subjects.
