BW Project Week 12

ISO 100 | 17mm | f 4.0 | 1/800 sec

Stopped to get a picture of this place on my way to work yesterday.  Probably a beautiful ranch house at one time, this old dilapidated building now serves as a shelter to the two dozen cows that graze in the pasture surrounding it.  They seemed unconcerned about the fact that they had a stranger wandering around snapping pictures of their abode.  Favoring me with only an occasional glance, they kept to their own business and allowed me to focus on mine.

Although I took several closer shots of this place to try and capture the detail of the structure itself, I found that I liked this wider shot better.  Something about this shot gives the whole context of this old ranch house and its surroundings.  I also have to say that besides the fence and the house, my favorite element in this photo is the sky.  Just the clouds and the gradient from the horizon to the outer edge of the frame does something for me.

I need to make more time to go out and explore.  Places like this are just sitting out there waiting to be captured on film...
