Farming implements and machinery scattered across the hills and dotting the landscape, some newly purchased, oiled, and greased, some old and dilapidated, sitting dormant and unused for over 20 years. Among them are tractors, harvesters, discs, harrows, plows, and seed drills. Each machine and farming implement has a particular use and purpose, all working together to bring life to the Palouse landscape.
An implement like this seed drill makes for fascinating subject matter with its various springs, discs, and runners. The sunlight coming from behind brings depth to the scene, accenting the numerous contours with light and shadow. My reason for using such a large aperture was to give the impression of and unending series of springs and runners, prohibiting the viewer from seeing the beginning or the end. I'm starting to like the look afforded by the smaller depth of field more and more.
